| Our solar system is made up of nine planets and the Sun (pictured below) around which they revolve. Moons revolve around some planets. There are many other objects that orbit the Sun, for example meteoroids, planetoids, and comets. The planets that surround the sun, in order from the closes to the furthest are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The planets that are farther out are generally large ones, with the exception of Pluto, the smallest planet in our solar system.
